Estimation of Remaining Useful Life of Li-Ion Battery Based on Charging Characteristic Data

Nowadays Li-Ion battery, as a typical secondary energy storage device, is widely used in various applications due to its property of high energy storage density. However, its capacity gradually reduces as repeated using of discharging and charging, which presents battery characteristics of degradation. The research utilizes battery charging and discharging experimental data published by the NASA Ames to the estimate remaining useful life (RUL) of a Li-Ion battery. The relation of the capacity and the charging voltage as well as current of the battery is found firstly. And then, by employing Particle Filter (PF) algorithm, degradation process and battery RUL are estimated based on probability distribution. The results show that the proposed method can effectively estimate RUL of Li-Ion battery.
