Comparison of Magnetic Nature of Vegetable Oil based Nanofluids

Vegetable oils (VO) are finding application as an alternative insulating medium in power transformers. The vegetable oils are having better electrical characteristics compared to conventional mineral oil (MO). To further enhance the electrical, thermal characteristics of vegetable oil, nanoparticles (NP) are dispersed in the VO. Transformer winding carries current which in turn produces magnetic flux. The magnetic flux establishes the magnetic link between primary and secondary winding of transformer. The leakage flux from the winding flows through the insulating liquid in the transformer. The study of magnetic nature of the insulating liquid is necessary to understand its impact on the leakage flux and vice versa. Therefore, to study the magnetic nature of these vegetable oil based nanofluids (VO-NFs), two types of vegetable oils (FR3 and Jatropha Oil) and for each vegetable oil, two types of nanoparticles (CuO and TiO2) are considered to evaluate the magnetic nature. These samples are analyzed using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Magnetization is plotted for the VO and VO-NFs with respect to variation in field strength.
