A novel dehazing algorithm based on Retinex principle

Due to the atmospheric scattering or light intensity attenuation, phenomena such as haze, fog, or smoke can cause the obvious degradation of image qulity. By analysis of the atmospheric attenuation and scattering, a novel dehazing algorithm based Retinex principle and homomorphic filtering is proposed in this paper. Experimental results on different hazy images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and high quality haze-free images can be obtained after the histogram equalization process of the proposed algorithm.
