Dual Band Circularly Polarized Compact Implantable Antenna Using Shorting Pin

A novel dual-band, compact, circularly polarized implantable antenna with shorting pin operating at the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) bands (1.72-1.83 GHz) and (2400-2480 MHz) for biomedical applications is designed and presented in this paper. is designed on a circular patch having crossed slots of different lengths on it. In order to get an appropriate impedance matching, a coaxial feed of 50 Ω is fed to the antenna. The antenna performance is simulated and analyzed inside a human body environment (one-layer skin) i.e in muscle type environment. Further a shorting pin of radius 0.1 mm is loaded into the substrate of the antenna in order to convert the former linear polarized antenna into a perfect circular polarized antenna. The results of the antenna came out that the single band antenna is converted into dual band having an ISM frequency range of (1.72-1.83 GHz and (2400-2480 MHz)) which proves that due to its small size, compactness and dual-band operation, the proposed antenna can safely be used as an implant for the patients. Since it became circularly polarized its property of CP adds to the achievement so far in wireless telemetry systems which and is effective in combating the multipath interferences.
