Static Output Feedback Controller Design of Discrete Systems Subject to Actuator Magnitude and Rate Saturation

This paper deals with static output control of multi-variable (MIMO) linear discrete time systems subject to actuator magnitude and rate saturation. An algorithm is presented to design saturated controllers using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The nested saturation is included in a convex hull and a quadratic Lyapunov function is used to guarantee the stability of the closed loop. There are two opposite optimization tasks presented: enlarging the domain of attraction or maximizing the decay rate. In the examples, the first optimization task is demonstrated on the model of a space shuttle and the second one is used for comparison to other approaches.
