Design and Performance Analysis of a Dual Stub MIMO Antenna for On-Body Applications

Because of the increased necessity and desire to integrate wireless technology into the healthcare system, significant research has been conducted recently for developing Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) and their applications. Considering this, a Dual Stub Multiple-In Multiple-Out (MIMO) Antenna has been designed in the CST Studio Suite 2019 software for elaborative performance analysis of the Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) at an operating frequency of 6.1 GHz (C-Band). A 4-layered human body phantom is made for proper implementation, consisting of Bone, Muscle, Fat, and Skin to determine the designed Antenna's effectiveness. In-depth analysis regarding the Antenna's performance is accomplished by using three different substrate materials: Taconic RF-60A (Lossy), Chromium, and Rogers RT5880 (Lossy). By using Taconic RF-60A substrate material, results including the maximum magnitude of Reflection Coefficient (S2,1) of 52.13 dB, minimum VSWR of 1.244, Efficiency of 78.13%, and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of 0.24 W/kg for 1 gram of tissues, and many more have been successfully determined after applying the Antenna on the body phantom at a distance of 20 mm, which validates the objectives of the work.
