Bio-Inspired Aircraft Wing Modification Analysis in ANSYS Fluent

The research aims to design a bio-inspired modification on the existing wing that can reduce the drag of the airplane. In such, the purpose of the research is to decrease friction drag that results in a large decrease in fuel costs and environmental effects. In the first approach, an acceptable context enclosure was designed by the author, which depicts the experimental results of a standard wing. The experiment performed for a standard NACA 0012 airplane wing in the Chisachi laboratory by the University of Tokyo is considered as the reference experimental results in the objectives of the research. The author could evaluate four different types of modifications that are smaller in weight compared to the regular wing using ANSYS Fluent Workbench software. Thus, analyzing the numerical outcomes with experimental results author found two bio-inspired wing shapes that are efficient than the regular wing, which can be incorporated in the future aviation industry. In conclusion, the author considered the wing weight directly affects to the fuel consumption of the airplane.
