Survivable Virtual Network Embedding Problem on Elastic Optical Networks with Node Failure

In this paper, a heuristic method was proposed to solve the survivable virtual network embedding (SVNE) problem on elastic optical networks (EONs) with single-node failure protection. The proposed method consists of two phases: the VNE phase and protection phase. In the VNE phase, the proposed Node Importance Metric First (NIMF) algorithm uses metric value of the node to select candidate nodes and find suitable embedded nodes to reduce the blocking probability. In the protection phase, the proposed Node Failure Protection (NFP) algorithm constructed auxiliary graph and calculus migrating cost to find the minimum mapping cost required to achieve the final mapping with node protection. We show the effectiveness of the proposed SVNE scheme through extensive simulations. The simulation results show that compared with the failure independent protection (FIP) method [8], the proposed method can effectively reduce the protection cost and the blocking probability.
