Development of Portable Induction Furnace for MSME Sector

From the early age of metalwork, India is in the front line of the development of metal technology which proves from recent excavations in the Middle Ganges Valley that show iron working in India may have begun as early as 1800 BCE. For the melting of metal, the traditional method is used in many sectors in India, which makes environmental hazards as well as adversaries for human health & weakening the economy. In this paper, a portable induction heater is developed to eradicate the ongoing heat treatment system which uses coal. It is an attempt towards eco-friendly energy utilization and it also reduces the public health hazards. The induction heating is a non-contact process, occurs in the target metal itself, and it is considered more efficient than the traditional heating methods of metal. The unit is developed for a social cause, and it is intended to benefit the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, located in Bankura district of West Bengal, where mainly the health conditions of the workers in the industry get drastically deteriorated due to the adverse effects of using coal. The model provides a cheap, time-efficient, and a safe alternative to the conventional method. Therefore, it will be a cost effective and efficient tool for the MSME sectors.
