Short circuit performance of transformers in solar PV systems

The nature of short circuit stresses on transformers have remained the same for decades with constant nature of generation. However, the ongoing transformation of the grid with a proliferation of renewable sources of generation has called forth a re-examination of the short circuit withstand philosophy. This paper examines the changing nature of short circuit current and the challenges placed on transformer design and testing, focusing on transformers installed in solar PV systems.
