An Efficient and Compact Multi-port Power Supply for Nano-satellites

This paper delineates the design and fabrication of an efficient, compact, and cost-competitive multi-port power supply for nano-satellites. It is designed to meet the specifications of IEEE international future energy challenge (IFEC) 2020. A novel bootstrap circuit is proposed to eliminate isolated gate driver power supplies. A current estimation scheme is also suggested to reduce the number of current sensors. A protection scheme to avoid reversal of inductor current under light load conditions is formulated. Furthermore, a unified control technique is discussed to allow seamless transitions between three distinct modes of operation of the power supply. Simulation and experimental results, as well as packaging details of the fabricated prototype, are provided to support the viability of the suggested power supply.
