Analysis and Suppression of Corner Electric Field in Magnetic Flux Valves

The magnetic flux valve (MFV) is a novel electromagnetic device for controlling the magnetic flux in magnetic circuits. Due to the corner effect, when a control voltage is applied on the MFV, the electric field around the corners of the MFV is much larger than that in the center of the MFV. Therefore, the corner effect of electric field should be considered in the insulation design of the MFV. To minimize the impact of the corner effect on the MFV, this paper first reviewed the MFV’s structure and working principle, analyzed the corner effect of the electric field of the MFV, and then proposed four design options to study the impact of the corner effect on the MFV. The four design options were numerically simulated with the finite element method in Ansys Maxwell. Based on the simulation results, the best design option with the minimum corner effect is determined for the MFV.
