Measurement of functional cortical networks of the human brain

Summary form only given. The author reports on a set of procedures called event-related covariance (ERC) analysis. Applying ERC analysis to simple cognitive tasks, he obtained clear-cut results that were consistent with prior neuropsychological models of the rapidly shifting cortical network accompanying expectancy, stimulus registration and feature extraction, response preparation and execution, and updating to feedback about response accuracy. These results suggest that current technologies allow measurement of important variables characterizing the formation and evolution of functional networks of cortical areas in the human brain.<
