Design and Implementation of Hybrid BCI based Wheelchair

Many people across the world are disabled due to accidents, wars, diseases, and natural disasters. A large population of the world is suffering from various motor disabilities and is not able to have voluntary control over muscular activities. The number of disabled people is significantly rising so there arises a need for innovation to make them self-reliant. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are widely used for various home appliances, and intelligent wheelchairs. But conventional BCI systems with single type of input signals are not reliable and less accurate. To overcome this problem, hybrid BCI system-combining EEG and EOG is developed. Thus the proposed research work has designed and manufactured a motorized wheelchair that is lighter, cost-effective, and controlled using a Hybrid EEG-EOG based BCI. The wheelchair has been tested in an indoor environment and it functioned efficiently.
