Layout of a Scientific Control Center Environment to Develop Future Grid Operation Methods

the electrical energy supply has significantly changed in recent years. The increasing decentralization of energy generation and integration of new assets, especially High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) lines and Phase Shifting Transformers (PST), need new concepts and methods for grid operation. At the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg (OVGU) a scientific control center environment was set up to develop these methods as application-related as possible. The main feature of this environment is the interaction between the control center software PSlcontrol and the simulation environment MATLAB. This paper presents the developed interface between MATLAB and PSlcontrol based on the protocol IEC 60870-5-104, the overall system layout and future use cases of the control center environment.
