Detecting Hot Spots Using GIS Analysis: Case Study of Indonesia's Political Opposition Hashtag

Geopolitical mapping and analysis has evolved significantly over the decades of this year. Along with the development of special technology, digital technology has penetrated into the political realm. Geographic information system (GIS) as one part of information technology plays a role in the geopolitical mapping process with mapping and spatial data. Today, with the rapid advancement of technology, computer-based techniques to explore, visualize, and explain the occurrence of political mapping activities have become important. One of the more influential tools facilitates the exploration of the spatial distribution of GIS hot spots. In addition, the sheer amount of information available to most analysts requires computing systems that are intelligent, capable of integrating a wide variety of data and facilitating identification. The spread of opposition political movements on social media through the famous hashtag #2019 Change President. This study uses spatial data from Twitter social media from May 11, 2018 to July 31, 2018. The data is analyzed using optimal hot spot analysis by calculating the Getis-Ord Gi* statistic to analyze the distribution of hot spot points over a certain period of time-based on GIS. This research has confirmed the potential of spatial social media analysis in general and the effectiveness of a digital political strategy, in particular.
