Optimal Tuning of PI Controller for Time Delay System

To control the processes which having long time delay, a simplified smith predictor based internal model control (IMC) tuned proportional integral (PI) is introduced. The control strategy concentrated on delay time free part of the system to optimize the system performance. The control structure is systematically developed for optimizing the servo and regulatory operation of the system. A prominent advantage of this proposed method is a one parameter adjustment. The stable first order with delay time (S-FOPTD) and unstable second order with delay time (U-SOPTD) are utilized to show the efficacy of the projected simplified smith predictor-tuned control algorithm. This method gives the 18.80 % and 43.92 % improvement than the IMC based PI tuning method in terms of integral absolute error (IAE) for guided signal tracking and denial of disturbances respectively, for the unstable second order system.
