Intention Using Dating Apps in Indonesia

Internet users are increasingly using online dating applications. The introduction of internet dating applications has opened up a new avenue for finding a companion. Before the arrival of online dating apps, people met their dates after being presented by friends, being matched by parents, or meeting at gatherings where they could meet large numbers of people. The goal of this study is to see whether self-esteem (self-competence and self-liking), permissive sexual attitude, and motivation (love motivation, casual sex motivation, ease of communication motivation, and self-worth validation motivation) have an impact on the intention to use online validation. This research was conducted in May 2020. Participants with an average age of 21.95 (M =21.95) who used the internet and were familiar with online dating applications made up the study's population. The sample used in this research involved 573 people ($n$=573) using a non-probability sampling method. The instrument that used in this study is an intention measurement tool that was made by the researchers using online dating applications. Then, the researchers also adapted and modified the self-liking/self-competence scale, premarital sexual permissiveness scale, and the tinder motivations scale. With the help of LISREL 8.80 software, the researchers examine the validity of the measuring device using the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) approach. The data were analyzed using the multiple regression analysis approaches and IBM SPSS Statistics 22 software. The findings revealed that self-esteem, permissive sexual attitudes, and motivation all had a substantial impact on the intention to use online dating applications, which was 74.6 percent.
