Reconstruction Method for Burning Surface Shift Process of Solid Propellant Based on Tomographic Imaging

By arranging multiple detection nodes around the rocket motor, the attenuation information of electromagnetic waves can be obtained. One node is used to transmit terahertz signals, and the others are used to receive the transmitted signal that penetrate the solid propellant. The signal is transmitted to the PC, and combined with technology of tomographic imaging to image the propellant burning surface. This paper compares the reconstructed images of the same model in the millimeter wave system and the terahertz system. Result shows that the shift procession of burning surface for the propellant and edge profile can be presented clearly by using the terahertz detection signal combined with the filtered back-projection algorithm. The reconstructed image has high consistency with the constructed model. It proves the feasibility reconstruct the burning surface progression of solid propellant using terahertz tomography, which provide a good foundation for terahertz tomographic imaging to measure the burning rate of solid propellants.
