Social Interaction Through Gamification in Mobile Learning: Case Study Analysis

During the pandemic crisis, a lot of organizations are solving employee training issues and choosing new ways of development. Mobile learning, defined as learning through social interaction, is extremely growing in the EdTech industry. Social interaction is one of the gamification dimensions, which appeal to users sharing and exchanging learning information by using gamified tools of mobile applications. User’s orientation toward relationships with others is important in analysing social interaction through gamification in mobile learning because in learning environment gamification can induce internal motivation by using the game elements. The lack of social support can have a negative impact on mobile learning performance [8]. It is extremely important to understand what goal pursing reasons can increase social interaction in mobile learning through gamification. Aim of this paper is to identify what goal pursuing reasons motivate social interaction through gamification. Single case method was applied for this research: qualitative study - 33 interviews were conducted to gain deep knowledge about goal pursuing reasons; content analysis was chosen for evaluation of the linkage between goal pursuing reasons and gamification. The findings highlight that personal autonomous and relational autonomous goal pursuing reasons are essential for social interaction in mobile learning through gamification. The research elaborates theory of gamification and findings will help practitioners to focus on the development and application of gamification in digital learning activities.
