Low Probability of Interception Beamforming in Single-Sideband Time-Modulated Antenna Arrays

Low probability of interception (LPI) beamforming is investigated in a single-sideband (SSB) time-modulated antenna array (TMA). A novel LPI time modulation sequence (LPI-TMS) is proposed to simultaneously improve the LPI and continuous beam scanning capabilities of electronic systems. Based on an 8-element SSB TMA, linear frequency modulation continuous wave (LFMCW) signal transmission is performed. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed LPI-TMS can increase the signal uncertainty at undesired scanning angles, and thus reduce the possibility of exposure of signal characteristics. It indicates that the proposed technique is attractive for future LPI applications.
