FoodByte: An Android Based Mobile Health Application for Taking Dietary Decisions

Dietary decisions can help people to make a healthier lifestyle. We can observe and measure our daily diet data and make conclusions based upon them. Food pigments have been linked to various beneficial health effects in the human body. This paper presents an android based mobile health application named FoodByte to track people's diets. The goal is to collect daily dietary consumption meal images using a mobile camera and keep the data to a remote server so later it can be used to analyze. Based on the data of images and user's feedback of different questionnaires research was conducted to find the effects of food pigments on human health. Here we compared four dominant colors and showed that the overall healthiness of the meal is reflected by the dominant color. Our research shows that yellow and red color foods are best rated for taste whereas brown color foods are considered to cause bloating and gassiness. On the other hand, foods with red and yellow colors are the reason behind indigestion and heartburn can occur due to red color food. According to the results, it is clear that the foods that are yellow are the least harmful and good for health with an average value of 1.6. However, the ANOV A result indicates that after taking meal gas is considered to be statistically significant with a p-value of 0.0375.
