Design of a Metamaterial-Based Multi-Beam High Power Microwave Oscillator

Generating microwaves using metamaterial (MTM) structures requires a negative index waveguide interacting with an electron beam. A double negative MTM (DNG-MTM) structure is necessary to produce propagating wave inside a standard waveguide. In previous work,

the suggested method to have a DNG-MTM is to place a MTM with single negative parameter (SNG) inside a cutoff waveguide. In this work, we developed a structure comprising a number of DNG-MTM metallic plates that have periodicity in both the axial and the azimuthal directions inside a cylindrical waveguide. Using eigenmode simulations, we verified negative dispersion around the operating frequency where the group velocity is negative and extremely small.
