Analysis of Electrical Properties in a Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma JET

A dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet has been interested in plasma applications for creating an interaction between the jet and surface objectives. A conventional coplanar-coaxial DBD jet has two electrodes outer covering electrode tube. Therefore, it composes of two parallel DBD, i.e. (i) two electrodes along with a dielectric tube and (ii) power electrode, treatment material, and the dielectric tube. In practical, a position of current probe is always closely earth ground in the circuit, since a safety process or limited inner diameter of current probe (micro-discharge at probe when placed at high voltage wire with a small inner diameter) such as Tektronix current probe (A6302, P6021) or Pearson current monitor (Model 410). A discharge power would be calculated by integration of instantaneous voltage and current. If current through each electrode is different in a coplanar-coaxial DBD jet, the method calculation of discharge power must be adjusted to obtain a high accuracy of power measurement in practice. In this study, the current waveforms and their powers through several positions were examined in the DBD plasma jet, i.e. high voltage terminal, discharge gap, earth terminal, and free streamer. The results will propose a current probe place to obtain high accuracy, the effect of materials on the plasma discharge. Also noteworthy is a relation between operating parameters with electron density and electron velocity will be presented.
