Diversity Combining Techniques in Indoor VLC communication

In this paper, the performance and benefits of receiver diversity combining schemes are discussed for multiple link indoor Visible Light Communication (VLC) system. The proposed transmission system exploits, low cost, energy efficient and high data rate advantage of VLC that make it more attractive alternate than radio frequency (RF) for indoor transmission. Two diversity combining schemes, selection combining (SC) and switch and examine combining (SEC) are discussed. The closed form expression for outage probability (OP) and bit error rate (BER) are derived for SC and SEC diversity combining schemes. In addition, the performance is analysed for different, VLC field of view angle (FOV), number of VLC luminaries, half illumination angle and switching threshold. Moreover, all the analytical results are validated with their Monte Carlo simulations.
