Low Cost ECG Monitoring Machine Based on Computer Using Serial Communication RS232

Electrocardiography (ECG) is very important to know the clinical condition of the human heart. Early examination will result in the right treatment steps. ECG devices are usually found in the ER, cardiac clinic, ICU and operating rooms and are very expensive. Therefore, an inexpensive and accurate ECG monitoring design is indispensable for the community. The purpose of this research is to design an ECG machine that can monitor heart conditions via a computer using RS232 communication. The contribution of this study is the ECG reading was carryout using 12-bit AD547 which low power and high stability. The system is built using a pre-amplifier, summing amplifier, band-pass filter, and notch filter. Furthermore, an ADC is used for conversion from analog to digital using the AD547 (12 bit). Digital data is sent to the computer using RS232 serial communication. From the measurement results on the BPM setting, an error value of 0.264

was obtained. Furthermore, the error value for amplitude is 0.0%. Based on these data it can be said that the personal computer (PC) based ECG device is made suitable for use. The RS232 communication between the microcontroller and computer simplifies the wiring without compromising the performance of the ECG design
