Wireless Rotor Temperature Measurement System Based on Bluetooth Low Energy and Electric Field Power Harvesting

Measuring the rotor temperature of an electric machine can not only safeguard the system from overheating, but can also improve the control and thermal utilization of the drive. In this contribution a novel on-rotor temperature acquisition system will be introduced, based on low cost circuitry and featuring an innovative energy harvesting system which uses power transfer induced by the common mode voltage alternation in inverter-fed drives. It is shown that using a simple and versatile energy harvesting antenna is sufficient to power the system and that Bluetooth Communication is suitable to transmit the measured data to the receiver, located outside of the machine.
