A Novel Method of Distributed Computing for Probabilistic Transient Stability Analysis

A novel method of Distributed computing approach has been proposed for risk assessment of power system due to transient instability. Because of continuous increase in the size of the electric power network, the assessment of risk has to be more computationally effective and robust. In this scenario, Transient stability analysis plays vital role in development and secure operation of power system whose parameters are stochastic in nature. In practice, probabilistic transient stability analysis will be more comprehensive because it requires lot of computations for accurate results. A distributed computing approach for analysis of stability under transient state in terms of critical fault clearing time measurement with overall risk index for various uncertainties is presented here. A prototype model has been established in our lab to deploy this method. Actually, the problem statement is divided into jobs and distributed among the processors and parallelism can be attained by sharing each task among processors. The Impact and effectiveness of distributed parallel computing is proved by performing Transient stability study on IEEE test systems. The measure of performance of the procedure is estimated in terms of rapidity of computation and efficiency by comparing it with sequential/serial method.
