Generation System Expansion Planning with Renewable Energy

The use of renewable energy sources as a generation resource in electric power systems is growing rapidly due to its advantages that are minimal pollution, nondepletion, and low operating cost. This chapter proposes a new approach to solve long‐term generation mix considering renewable energy resources, namely wind turbine generators (WTGs) and solar cell generators (SCGs) with multi‐criteria considering CO₂, SO_x, and NO_x emission constraints using linear programming. It focuses on the development of tools to analyze the effect of WTGs and SCGs on the best generation mix (BGM) using fuzzy set theory. The fuzzy set theory‐based BGM was simulated considering WTG and SCG and air pollution criterion. The economic credits of renewable energy resource in the best generation mix problem were proposed in the viewpoint of CF and CER of WTG and SCG. The proposed model and method are useful tools for various economics evaluation in the BGM considering renewable energy generators and emission constraints.
