Non-Orthogonal Multicast and Unicast Beamforming for Multi-Beam Satellite Communications

We investigate the non-orthogonal multicast and unicast beamforming for multi-beam satellite communications and focus on the spectral efficiency and energy efficiency tradeoff. First of all, the approximate ergodic rate and semidefinite relaxation are adopted to simplify the problem formulation. Then, a nested iterative algorithm applying the majorization-minimization method and quadratic transformation is proposed. Numerical results illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
