Highly Efficient Electric Drive Based on HTC for Traction Applications in Heavy Tracked Vehicles

A new type of energy-efficient electric motor is considered as a traction drive for the electromechanical transmission of the DET-400 tracked tractor. Field regulated reluctance machines offer high energy efficiency and high specific torque. The article provides a comparison between field regulated reluctance machine and various types of traction electric drives, specifically an induction motor and a motor with permanent magnets. The issues of FRRM with HTC design are considered, attention is also paid to the optimization of the geometric parameters of the electric machine to achieve the best energy efficiency. As a result, the FRRM with HTC was designed for traction applications based on the real requirements of a Russian-made crawler tractor.
