The Induction Motor Model for Control Starting in Small-Scale Power Systems

With the development of small-scale generation the issue of conducting reliable starting and preventing stalling of large induction motors in electric power systems with comparable powers becomes especially significant. The conditions of the motor stalling and successful starting in large-scale power systems are well researched. However, those conditions are not acceptable in power systems where generation capacity and induction motors capacity are comparable. Designing automatic devices for successful starting control and preventing stalling of the motor requires the proper models of the critical conditions. Such conditions should consider the predicted variation and current values of voltage, frequency, mechanical torque of the load during motor starting and loading. Application of the critical conditions at the automatic devices allows to prevent initiation of emergency modes in local electric power systems with comparable powers. The successful starting conditions of induction motor and maximum-permissible stability modes for the local electric power systems with the results of the research are presented in the article.
