Energy Harvesting by Optical Rectenna for RFID and IoT Applications

Generally, RFID is considered a prerequisite for IoT. Since the RFID reader is connected to the web, it can identify, monitor and track tags attached to objects in real time. This document presents the IoT and RFID technologies, applications and the most difficult issues that RFID faces for its implementation within the IoT is discussed, such as energy autonomy. It also features solar cell antenna design and simulation for RFID. This antenna is applied in a system called RFID solar rectenna. A rectifier circuit topology has been proposed in the present work and the parametric study has shown that the RF / DC conversion efficiency can reach 62% for an input power between -10 dBm and 10 dBm and a load resistance of 1k Ω.
