LED Deployment Optimization in VLC Network Based on Simplicial Complexes

The optimization of Light Emitting Diode (LED) deployment is a problem to be solved in visible light communication (VLC). While simplicial complexes are tools from algebraic topology which provide an accurate and tractable representation of the topology of LED deployments. This letter studies the optimal configuration of LEDs in indoor environments under the constraints of illumination and signal-noise ratio (SNR). We present new LED deployment approaches based on the simplicial complex theory, which focus on (i) finding coverage holes in the LED deployment, (ii) adding LEDs to achieve full coverage, and (iii) removing redundant LEDs. A system-level simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve a seamless coverage with the minimal number of LEDs considering the different LED distributions. The computational time of the algorithm is also provided.
