Abstract:

A large count of individuals enduring through dementia and similar kind of cognitive disabilities have been reported to be missing every year and most of them are found dead. Alzheimer's disease is a growing problem that affects the lives of diagnosed individuals and their caregivers. According to research, over half of those with MCI will develop dementia within 5 years. In 2017, approximately 50 million people encounter dementia in the world. Various researchers and companies have proposed products that aid towards relief for these people. There are many products, which are just aiming for patients' safety, although there is a gap: no work is done by considering the link between system and caregiver’s need. We designed a complete system to monitor and record patient’s locations, heart rate which organizes the way that the caregivers comprehend and also it helps in reminding the faces which are forgotten by the patient and inform the patient about that patient with few details in speech. In this system, it mainly consists of two parts; first one is the monitoring system and second one is the algorithm used for the face recognition then text is converted to speech. This algorithm is using open source image processing framework known as OpenCV which is an efficient algorithm.

I. INTRODUCTION

Increasing prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in ageing populations has led to a growing need for modernizing the current practice of psychosocial interventions to ensure its effectiveness and sustainable delivery. Alzheimer's is an incurable, degenerative disease, which has affected the lives of many elderly adults. It is the top most type of dementia, representing a range of 50 to 70 percent of dementia [2]. In developed countries, Dementia is the fourth most common reason for death. Cognitive impairment is the disability; dementia patient suffers and may have problem when the caregiver is not available at home. The care giving member will return to the patient’s home not having any idea about the status or the history of the activities of patient. There is a way to keep an eye on their closed one is in proper state or not throughout the day, status of body temperature and heart rate, and is not in an agitated state, provides relief.
