Game Theory-based Coordinated Controls for the Mitigation of Subsynchronous Control Interactions

In the past decade, the phenomenon of sub-synchronous control interaction (SSCI) has emerged in power systems integrated with wind farms, and caused severe damages (i.e., equipment damage, loss of power supply). Consequently, many mitigation methods for such phenomenon have been developed and validated via both softwares and hardware. However, these measures are mainly targeting a specific wind farm/aggregated wind farm models, and the methods to deploy mitigation controls between wind farms in different regions have been hardly investigated. To cope with this issue, this paper proposes a game-based model to design coordinated control for SSCI mitigation. Firstly, the game-based model of the power system is presented considering physical attributes and constraints in reality, followed by the construction of profile dynamic functions of the whole system. Then, to achieve both optimal system stability and best profits for each wind farm owner, a coordinated control is designed in the above modelled system. Afterwards, the proposed coordinated control is applied in a model simplified from a practical power system that has been striked by SSCI incidents. The results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
