Information Content Analysis on the Spectral Range 350-2500NM Using Spectral Convolution and PCA

Imaging spectroscopy gains more importance in various and diverse applications. Using the appropriate spectral resolution of a spectral sensor for the targeted study area is important to obtain meaningful data. In this study, a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was performed on spectrally convolved spectral ground control points of different land cover types obtained using field spectroradiometers to estimate the information content of the data in a wavelength range from ultraviolet to short-wave infrared (350 - 2500nm). Based on the results, an optimal spectral resolution (Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM)) for the modelled Spectral Response Function (SRF) can be established and discussed.
