Salt Tolerance Vegetation Index - An Integrated Approach of Dual Polarized Sar Models

The study was executed to explore the potential of the proposed Salt Tolerance Vegetation Index (STVI) from Sentinel-1 C-band frequency in identifying the salt-tolerant and stressed crops. Three different SAR models of soil salinity, vegetation biomass, and plant water content were integrated to propose STVI. The locations of salt-tolerant plants were identified in the higher range of STVI (0.5 - 1) and stressed crops in the lower range of STVI (0 - 0.5) values. The locations of the various plants in different ranges of STVI were analyzed and categorized as salt-tolerant and stressed crops. The proposed model's result has shown substantial agreement with the ground conditions with an overall accuracy of 78% and a Kappa coefficient (K) of 0.74.
