Improved Reaction-diffusion Model-based Study on Pathogenesis and Treatment of Virus-induced Lung Airway Epithelium Diseases

Many lung diseases are associated with lesions of lung airway epithelium caused by viruses. It is of great significance to study the mechanism of virus infection in lung airway epithelium to explore the pathogenesis and treatment of these diseases. The current traditional pathological research methods based on animal models are susceptible to the limitation of sample size and the high cost. In this paper, an improved reaction-diffusion model is developed to reproduce the process of virus spreading from the initial infection point to the whole lung airway epithelial tissue. Using this model, the influence of virus characteristics on the spreading process was studied and the influence of different intensities of treatments on virus spreading was analyzed by adding treatment items into the model. Our work might evoke attention to the mathematic model-based pathogenesis research and spark inspiration in the treatment research for virus-induced lung airway epithelium diseases.
