Remote State Estimation over a Packet-delaying Network without Packet Acknowledgment

This paper studies the linear state estimation problem for networked systems with random delay. The packet arrival sequence is assumed to be unavailable to the estimator due to malicious attack or using User Datagram Protocol (UDP) scheme. We adopt a transmission mechanism that the packet is sent only once for saving the network bandwidth, and the corresponding estimation algorithm is proposed. The novelty of the algorithm has three points: Firstly, unlike the classic "predict-estimate" scheme, our algorithm consists of smooth and estimate; Secondly, the algorithm uses the orthogonal projection principle and the innovation sequence approach to deal with colored noise phenomena caused by measurement combination; Finally, the expectation of the packet arrival rate is used for instead of the unavailable packet sequence. Estimation performance versus average delay of the network is shown via numerical examples.
