Placement of Different Types Containers at Railway Container Terminal Using Double-Stack

There are various problems in optimizing container operations during container service at the rail container terminal. The problem of movement optimization for different types of containers at the railway container terminal with using double-stack loading is formulated. An approach to improve the efficiency of container handling operations at the railway terminal is proposed. According to the approach, the placement of containers on railway platforms and in the storage area at the railway terminal is optimized. The mathematical model in the form of a combinatorial optimization problem is constructed; a strategy for solving the problem is formulated. Examples of efficiency calculations of containers reloading operations by the proposed approach are resulted.
