Numerical Study on the Contact Pair under Press Hardening Conditions

Tribological behaviors are of importance in press hardening processes. In some extent, proper friction and reasonable wear result in good economics and high quality of productivity. The friction becomes unstable when the tool wear accumulates to a certain amount, which not only shortens the service life of the tool but also increases the rupture and wrinkling risk of the workpiece. The worn surface is relevant with break of the coating, increase of the transferred layer and the wear debris. In order to study the tribological behaviors in the worn surface of a stamping tool, the present work outlines a finite element (FE) simulation for the contact pair under the press hardening conditions. The present FE-simulation provides with the possibility to predict the friction force and wear with consideration of surface topography, coating fracture, solid lubricant coverage during the forming process.
