Local tailoring of light in inhomogeneous scattering media

Due to the major advances in theoretical and experimental photonics, the propagation of light through inhomogeneous dielectric structures can nowadays be tailored to a remarkable degree [1] , [2] . The understanding of the spatial localization of electromagnetic field intensity inside complex dielectric geometries has proven highly relevant to the precise control of light-matter interactions. A common approach to confine light is relying on the existence of resonant modes, which are characterized by spatially localized field intensity. In systems such as disordered dielectrics [2] , however, multiple scattering of light prevents us from a straightforward control of the associated resonances. This is due to the fact that any local change of the dielectric function of the disordered medium will affect the light field not just locally, but rather everywhere where the scattered field is non-zero.
