A Double Split Ring Resonator Based Sensor for Infrared Imaging and Sensing Applications

A configuration composed of eight double split ring resonators (DSRR) surrounds star-like tapered transmission lines is proposed to harness and absorb longwave infrared (LWIR) energy. The proposed structure utilizes a silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer topped by a gold metallic layer (Au). A numerical simulation shows that the proposed configuration can achieve up to 41% as an absorption efficiency at a frequency of 27 THz. The dispersion effect of the metal and the dielectric layer are taken into account during this investigation.
