Prospects for energy management on modern radiotelescopes

Energy management will be more and more critical in the years to come, like any system the instruments developed for radio astronomy have to take into account a deep adaptation to these new stakes. The cost of operation is becoming an increasingly strong constraint on achievable scientific objectives. The cost of energy logically takes a growing part of these operating costs, and must be taken into account for any new instrument design. This is particularly true for aperture arrays having a high density of electronic and digitization channels per meter square. Lots of scientific goals are technically feasible with those kind of arrays, but their operating cost may be too high for financial and ecological feasibility.
