A High-Efficiency Lens-Coupled 60GHz On-Chip Antenna Module for Millimeter-Scale Wireless Transmitters

This work reports on a 2x2 miniature-sized high-efficiency integrated antenna array in a standard Silicon Germanium (SiGe) 130nm process for millimeter-scale millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications, such as high data-rate wireless communications and high resolution radar sensing. The proposed 2x2 slot antenna module achieves 14.7dBi radiation gain and 48% radiation efficiency by design optimization on antenna elements and the array. The radiation gain is improved more than 13dB by optimization of array geometry as well as application of a high resistivity hemispheric silicon dielectric lens.
