Voltage Sag Reduction using a Dynamic Voltage Restorer under Different Types of Faults in The Power System

A short circuit is one of a number of events that cause voltage sag or interruptions of the power supply. In fact, a short circuit appears with many different types such as three-phase fault, single phase to ground fault, phase to phase fault, phase to phase to ground fault… This paper presents a Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) using a vector-controlled structure on the static αβ-coordinate system with the combination of voltage control and current control to minimize voltage sag on the grid. The proposed DVR control method is modelled using MATLAB-Simulink and tested for balanced/unbalanced voltage sags caused by different types of short circuit. As a result, by using this controlling method, the load voltage is compensated quickly and stabilized in less than 1/2 cycle.
