A study on the application of temperature measuring technology for magnetic-valves in a magnetic-valve controlled reactance

According to practical cases of MCR abnormal operation and breakdown disintegration, this paper makes an investigation into the partial overheating characteristic of magnetic valves pre-set on the MCR iron core. To describe temperature rising performances of magnetic valves inside 35kV oil-immersed MCR, this paper developed a kind of fluorescent optical-fiber sensor-based temperature monitoring system and proposed the installation method for field applications. All proposed technologies were applied and tested at a 220kV substation. After a long-term field-trial, all collected data results proved that proposed temperature monitoring system and installation methods could achieve long-term, reliable, and accurate on-line temperature monitoring for hot spots on magnetic-valves, which brings great help for improving operation reliability and maintenance level of the MCR.
