Particle Simulations of the Evanescent Mode Oscillator (EMO) as a High-Efficiency Source of Millimeter-Wave and Terahertz Oscillations

Evanescent mode oscillators (EMOs) were systematically introduced as high-efficiency versions of the extended interaction oscillators (EIOs) in the first part of the article. They use the evanescent resonant mode (ERM) of the periodic structures. Here an EMO is implemented employing a ring-loaded slow-wave structure, excited by a pencil-type beam. Its performance is checked by using a particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation package. Excitation of the ERM modes is verified, with the EMO efficiencies close to the predictions of the first part of the article.
