Reduction of Tropinin Levels in Rats through Cardioprotective Activity of Syzygium Polyanthum Ethanol Extract

Benzene is often used as a solvent in industry, an intermediate in chemical synthesis, and also as a component of gasoline. Furthermore, this compound is known to cause cardiovascular disease which can damage the structure and function of the heart if exposed for a long time. As a result, benzene is often considered a pollutant with very high exposure to humans. In this study, the cardioprotective activity of the syzygium polyanthum ethanol extract on 22 benzene-induced rats was evaluated. Benzene and syzygium polyanthum ethanol extract were given to the subject according to a certain dose. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of syzygium polyanthum at doses of 400, 600, 800 mg/kgbw could reduce levels of Tropinin T and BNP. This was significantly different from the group given benzene 3 and BNP (p<0.05). In addition, further studies can be carried out on highly sensitive C reactive protein and also explore the molecular mechanism of the cardioprotective effect of syzygium polyanthum ethanol extract.
